The Jetsetters, the Jets’ Cheer Program, approaches cheerleading as a serious athletic sport—one that teaches participants physical conditioning, catalyzes creativity and collaboration and provides valuable leadership training to girls.

Jetsetters aged 5-14 years are led by academic mentors. Their certified coaches lead participants in sideline and competitive cheer.

“If you want to cheer, you have to give it your all. Our Jetsetters train hard and have fun, and are often invited to present at sporting events across the city. Over the years, they have won regional and national awards for their competitive athletic and creative abilities.”

Cheer practice starts in March and runs through October. During the season, the Cheer team will perform at Harlem Jets events in the Tri-State area, including but not limited other NYC, Long Island, New Jersey, Upstate New York and Connecticut.
[Cheer practice takes place at the same time/location as tackle football practice]

Practice generally takes place at Wagner Park on 120th Street and Second Avenue; Harlem River Park at 128th Street and Third Avenue; or on Randall’s Island. Parents are expected to bring their children to Wagner Park and Harlem River Park, while the Jets will provide transportation to and from Randall’s Island and a central location in Harlem. Practice is held Saturday mornings in March and April and in May, expands to Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings until the end of the season.

This season, all Cheer coaches are women. Qualified men who have a child in the program are also welcome to join the Jets Cheer Program as a coach. All coaches, men and women, are required to sign up, take and pass the Coaching Youth Cheer the AFY Way course before the seasons start. All wrestling coaches and administrators are trained in First Aid, CPR and Concussion management and treatment.

The Jets have sideline cheer teams, and are building out competitive cheer teams for those who qualify and participate in additional training. Regional tournaments can take place as far away as Maryland, while the national Cheer tournament takes place at the American Youth Football championships in Florida.

The Program is open to anyone from age 6 to 13, and registration requires a registration fee of $365, proof of identity, as well as copies of a flyers’ birth certificate, recent doctor physical and report card.
